A. Prof. Magnus Halland

About Dr Halland
Dr Magnus Halland was born in Norway and has a longstanding connection with Newcastle. He first arrived in Newcastle in 2000 to study medicine and remained here for 13 years before his career took him to Mayo Clinic in the United States.
At Mayo Clinic, Dr Halland completed two year-long subspecialty fellowships in oesophageal and motility disorders, completed a PhD, and worked for several years as a specialist gastroenterologist before returning to Newcastle in 2022.
Dr Halland has extensive experience in both endoscopic and physiological assessment of luminal gastrointestinal disorders. In addition to his clinical work, he is a recognised educator and researcher, with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications.
While at Mayo Clinic, Dr Halland received the honour of being recognised as Teacher of the Year — a highly coveted award received by only a small number of gastroenterologists in the Division of Gastroenterology.
He is an Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle and teaches medical students on a regular basis. He is also frequently invited to present at national and international educational events.
